A safe and seamless solution for the Government of Jersey
Increasing regulatory challenges, combined with high customer expectations, means that trusted, real time remote identity verification is an essential component of secure online access to a wide range of services.
This especially applies to Government of Jersey (GoJ) services where Islander’s want, and expect, to access services such as their income tax return online, at a time and place that suits them.
That is why the GoJ collaborated with Vaiie to create 'JerseyMe', a new digital ID verification tool to provide Islanders with secure and easy to use access to these services.
Key Outcomes
Giving Islanders control
JerseyMe is a web-based solution based on Vaiie technology and adapted for GoJ that allows Islanders to control their own identity verification experience. Through the simple interface, Islanders can use their internet-enabled device with a camera and microphone to complete the process to set up a JerseyMe account.
Delivering fast, secure and easy to use ID authentication
The platform uses Vaiie’s Identify product to verify the individual’s identity with fast, secure and easy-to-use ID authentication, facial recognition and liveness checking to safely and securely access to the Government's online services.
Creating secure ID-authentication for all
Secure ID-authentication is not just limited to those with online access. Through Vaiie’s position as part of the Jersey Post Group, JerseyMe provides customers with phone and in person support at Broad Street Post Office. Here dedicated staff members can help customers to set up their JerseyMe, if they don’t have a device with a camera or smartphone.
Full Story
Identifying the challenge
The GoJ's mission was to increase the accessibility of its services to more Islanders while offering the highest standards of customer experience in terms of speed and ease of use.
As a result, the Vaiie team worked with key Government departments directly involved with customers to ensure that the solution was not only fit for purpose but was customer centric in its ease of use.
Meeting the challenge
To ensure JerseyMe was fit for purpose and customer centric, Vaiie carried out significant testing throughout development. Robust testing was a vital stage in the project as the solution needed to be fast, secure and easy to use from day 1. The testing ensured it could not only scale up to cater for 1,000s of online interactions but also scale down in quieter times, maintaining its usability throughout but saving GoJ running costs. The level of testing applied both during design and development and subsequently into production exceeds any other deployed solutions in GoJ.
Technology is central to the success of JerseyMe. The simple interface provides an easy solution to upload the required identity verification information, anywhere at any time. Data privacy was central to the design principles, assets such as passports and videos were handled with significant levels of security and a fully automated process approved by the Data Regulator to ensure timely subsequent deletion.
The result
JerseyMe has been a huge step forward in providing busy Islander’s with access to manage their own online identification processes to access Government services at a time and place that is convenient to them and their daily routine.
Developing this web-based and device agnostic solution through collaboration between Vaiie and the Government of Jersey provides a number of benefits not just in delivering this project, but future initiatives in both organisations.
The approach taken also means JerseyMe and the technology used through Vaiie’s Identify product is well positioned to adapt to future changes in regulations.
JerseyMe meets the guidelines provided by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) who lead global action to tackle money laundering, terrorist and proliferation financing.
FATF guidelines require digital ID to be reliable, independent, and authorised by Government for use in customer due diligence.
As a result, Vaiie customers can be assured that Identify, the product that supports JerseyMe, already meets international standards in this regard.
